Using Your Phone for Travel Photography
Taking stunning travel photos with your phone. Capture beautiful memories of your travels with what is in your pocket and not the added weight of a “real” camera. My lesson learned is practice some of this before that "I'll never get this photo again" moment. And... don't run out of charge with your phone.
Are you going somewhere that you must have photos but don’t want the added weight of your camera? Here are a few tips to learn how to use your phone better. I use an iPhone but understand most of these tips work on all phones.
Clean your lens before you start taking photos. Sorta a duh - Important to remember.
Compositional tool. Turn on your rule of thirds grid. On an iPhone it is in settings under composition and find grid. It’s really thin so doesn’t get in the way. Where the lines intersect , you can put the important things and features.
Use RAW when you see something really good or have tricky lighting conditions. Maybe you are thinking this is something to print? Why not use RAW all the time? The files are much bigger. You’re talking, eating up your phone's room fast. I use JPEG most of the time but will turn on RAW as needed. If you have an older phone, Lightroom has a camera app that shoots RAW. Also you can adjust your ISO, F-stop, and your shutter speed - all inside the app.
Did you know that when you use your finger to focus you can also adjust your exposure? Bring your finger up and down on the focus button.
Don’t pinch for zoom. Use your optical lens that shows on your phone for best results. ".5, 1. 2." Just know if you are pinching and zooming you may be degrading the quality of the shot.
The volume button also can be used to click the photo.
If you like this and want more hints and tricks let me know. If you hate it, sorry!
